Welcome to the first edition of our new monthly newsletter "The VOICE" for Parents for Mask Free Education. We’re a collective of parents concerned about our children’s future, and our numbers are growing every day. One of our key efforts is holding school boards accountable for arbitrary decisions to impose mandatory masks on young children, in some cases without consulting public health units first.
We have successfully fundraised for a legal action that targets a number of school boards in Ontario. We have communicated with more than 200 interested families and many have volunteered to become plaintiffs. We have connected plaintiff families with a lawyer who is currently working to build a legal case, and we will update you on its progress from time to time. The hope is that our legal action will not only be successful, but it will set a precedent for Canadians who want to take action against school boards across the country that have instituted similar policies. We are proud to have taken the steps to defend our children’s rights.
In addition to our main Facebook group Parents for Mask Free Education, we now have two sister groups, UnmaskKids Canada – My Story. This is where you can share stories about how your child has been impacted by using face masks or mandatory mask mandates in schools. It’s a safe space where you can vent your frustrations with like-minded parents, and get tips from others on how to approach issues at your child’s school. It’s a private group so only other members can see what you post.
The second group is called Lives in Lockdown
This forum is a My Story ( personal experiences) forum only! We aim to bring together those who have been adversely affected by Covid19 Measures and Lockdowns in their lives and the lives of the people they love.
YOUR STORY WHEN SPOKEN OUT LOUD HEALS YOU AND IT WILL HEAL OTHERS!
Video is preferred but written testimonials are welcome as well. This is the place where all people can share their stories together as one voice! Our hope is for this movement will drown out the voices of media and the Official narrative to really show whats happening to people in their daily lives. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO SUBMIT STORIES WITHOUT SHOWING YOUR FACE IF NEEDED OR THROUGH ADMIN AND WE CAN POST FOR YOU IF YOU FEEL UNEASY.
While some of this newsletter will be dedicated to our collective efforts, we’ll also share any interesting news and studies about mask-wearing, especially for children.
B.C. TEACHER’S UNION APPEALS TO PARENTS
In British Columbia, where masks are not mandatory in schools, the provincial teacher’s union has been advocating for stricter mask rules in schools, and the union is appealing to parents to “support a culture of mask-wearing” in schools.
BELGIAN TOWN REJECTS ADVICE AGAINST MANDATORY MASKS IN SCHOOLS
We’ve seen many Ontario school boards impose mandatory masks on students in junior kindergarten to grade 3, despite a provincial mandate for grades 4 to 12 only. Some of these decisions were made without consulting local public health units.
It appears something similar is happening in Belgium, where a town decided to make masks mandatory for young school children despite advice from the country’s Risk Assessment Group (made up of 22 experts from Belgium’s various universities, hospitals, and health and child administrations). The RAG said it “does not recommend the use of face masks for children in primary school,” but the town council of Courcelles did not listen.
We can only hope that parents there will mobilize like we have!
SCOTTISH PARENTS GROUP SPEAKS OUT
Meanwhile in Scotland, a group of parents is speaking out about the negative effects of masking on children. Parents group UsForThem Scotland has made a submission to the Scottish Parliament’s equalities and human rights committee as part of its inquiry into the impact of COVID-19 on human rights. We wish there was a similar inquiry in Canada!
DANISH STUDY FINDS LIMITED PROTECTION FROM FACE MASKS
In late November, a study by Copenhagen University Hospital released results of a randomized controlled trial on face masks. The study found face masks provided only marginally better protection from COVID-19 than going maskless. Here’s a link to the study as well as a news story by Reuters.
Jennifer, a member of UnmaskKids – My Story writes:
“I have two kids...a 13 year old son and 11 year old daughter. They hate masking but want to be in school, so they do it because they have no other choice! It would be very difficult to even get an exemption and even if they did, they do not want to be harassed and bullied, so they just tough out each day. They get headaches and sore throats and my son gets over heated and has had to leave school often as he can’t take it anymore! Their faces have rashes and pimples on them all around where the masks are. It is so upsetting to see these mandates getting stricter and stricter!”
